CHURCH COSTS £BSO
BUILT FROM ARMY HUT (Special) WELLINGTON, Jan. 3. Finishing touches are now being added to the Raumati South Presbyterian Church, Wellington, which has been built out of an army recreational hut. It has been paid for by residents of the district, who organised bring-and-buy sales and also a fair last Easter to raise funds, while assistance has been given by the Presbyterian Church at Otaki. . „ ... The hut was purchased from the War Assets Realisation Board for £2OO. The section on which the church stands was bought for £l5O, and the cost of romoving the hut from Paekakariki to its present site, together with the cost of re-erecion, was about £SOO. A novel feature of the church is that although it is owned by the Presbyterian Church it may be used by any denomination; many people attend each service, irrespective of whether the service is of their denomination or not. Five different denominations are using the building at present, a roster system being used. All the furnishings were donations, including the organ, the only article lacking being a bell. Two other churches, at Naenae and Mona, have been built from army huts.
