R.S.A. GALA On Boxing Day the Upper Waitaki branch of the R.S.A. held a gala on the Kurow racecourse to raise funds for the clubrooms which it is proposed to build in Kurow. Apart from the numerous competitions, the main interest was centred in the horse racing and jumping events, the results of which were as follows: — Jumping.—J. L. Parsons’s Dave 1, D. Swaney’s Satan 2. Hack Race.—G. Mulvena’s Tokaraki 1, W. Sinclair's Ray 2, A. Dobson's Second Effort 3. Harness Trot.—J. McNeilly's Lough Guy 1, D. Munro’s Nancy 2. Kurow Cup.—G. Mulvena’s Meteor 1, W. McKenzie’s Strathisle 2, J. Duffy's Tiny 3. Walk, Trot and Gallop—E. Adams’s Waltzing Matilda 1, A. Bishop’s Duchess 2, M. Taylor’s Lady 3. Ladies’ Gallop—J. Trotter’s Straight Course 1, Taylor and Bishop’s Arsenic 2, J. L. Parsons’s Passenger 3. Saddle Trot.—D. Munro’s Nancy 1, T. Frewen’s Bandit 2, J. McNeilly’s Lough Guy 3. Open Hack Race—J. Duffy’s Tiny 1. J. L. Parsons’s Bomber 2, C. Dakers’s Dixie 3 As a finale to the day’s proceedings, a dance was held in the evening in the Memorial Hall. BOWLING ' The results of play on December 22 were as follows:—Shannon, Hunt, West, and Brown' 26, beat Robinson, Jackson, Gow, and Wilson 19; Henderson, Robinson. jun., and Hunt, jun., 16, beat Lee, Foster, and Collins 14. In spite of inclement weather on Saturday last, the more enthusiastic members decided to defy the elements, and games were organised, the results being as follows:—Jordan, Hunt, McKenzie, and Hunt, jun., 27, beat Shannon, Lee, Foster, and Collins 26; Robinson 27 beat Gow 10.
