MODEL PRAM BUS

A motor bus specially fitted to carry mothers with babies and prams is the novel plan which has been introduced on the run between Newtown and Geelong in Australia. This bus, which also carries a young hostess, makes four trips a day. The centre of an ordinary bus was cleared to accommodate 12 prams,, and only the wall seats were left. Nursery rhymes have been painted on the inside walls, and a panel of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs across the back. For each baby-in-pram an extra 3d is added to the ordinary fare. The idea was formulated by Mrs E. Bender, who is a coproprietor of a fleet of buses at Geelong. The pram-bus does not pay. " But,” Mrs Bender says, "it’s just a little service I wanted to give." The Melbourne Tramways Board is also launching a similar service on a number of its suburban routes.
