CONDONED ATROCITIES

CHARGES AGAINST HOMMA MANILA TRIAL OPENED (Rec. 11 p.m.) MANILA, Jan. 2. J The trial of General Homma was * opened in the room in which General Yamashita was condemned to death, but it was lacking the drama and tension surrounding the latter’s trial. The mournful Homma, dressed in a white suit, stared at his hands as the prosecution and the defence argued oyer the military commission’s authority to try Homma and other Japanese generals. The defence sharply criticised the charges against Homma as slipshod and loosely drawn. Homma is accused of condoning the Bataan “ death march ” and other atrocities.
