Melvian, the winner of the Winton Juvenile Stakes, is a gelding by Dillon Hall—Cushat, by Waverley—The Pigeon, by King Harold—Little Jane, by Spot, the next dam by Morris Dancer. Sea Bom The success of Sea Born in the Auckland Trotting Cup, for which he received £1950 and a geld cup Valued at £IOO, brought his earnings to £6026. Sea Bom, in seven seasons, has contested 65 races lor 8 wins and 16 places. He did his early racing in Southland for l}is breeder, Mr W. D. McLeod (says the New Zealand Herald), and later was purchased by his present owner, Mr C. Johnston, for whom he has won £3785 this season.' Sea Born is by the American-bred horse Arion Axworthy from Fair Wave, by Waverley from Fair Lady, by Our Thorpe from Lady Rothsoon, -by Harold Rottischild. To Worthy Bond,-Fair •Wave' 4 produced Willow Bank, who took a mile and a-haif record of 3min 14 l-ssec. The victory of Sea Born added to the fine record of the Bryce family in the Auckland Trotting Cup. He was driven by J. Bryce, who won the race in 1943, in which year two Cup contests were held, with Shadow Maid. J. Bryce, sen., won in 1915 with Cathedral Chimes, and in 1920 with Man. o’ War. His last success was in 1927 with Ahuriri. A. Bryce scored with Man o’ War in 1921 and with Gold Jacket in 1928 and 1929.
