DEFENCE OF PORTUGAL

NO DECREASE IN EXPENDITURE LISBON. Dec. 30. Portugal, according to the Budget estimates published to-day, is spending as much on the defence in 1946 as in 1945. The cost of defence forms 15 per cent, of the estimated total expenditure of £43.809.000. The war profits tax is abolished, but a higher yield is demanded from nearly all other forms of taxation.
