CHILDREN DETAINED
CHARGE AGAINST WOMAN ORDER OF COURT FLOUTED A charge of unlawfully detaining the children of the informant, Arthur Woodcock, labourer, Auckland (Mr Tompkins), with intent to deprive him of possession of the children, was preferred against Dorothy May, spinster, Hamilton, on Thursday. Mr Smith stated that the defendant, who was the aunt of the children, had received the summons only that morning, and he asked for a remand. Mr Tompkins said a writ of habeus corpus had been granted the informant with respect to the children by the Supreme Court last August. The defendant had not complied with the order, and, in fact, had taken the children away, leaving no address and giving no information as to their whereabouts. Counsel added that it was too late to lodge an appeal against the court’s decision. Mr Paterson said the defendant had chosen to flout the court. She was remanded until January 24, bail being allowed.
