POLICE AND BANDITS
I CLASH IN BRITISH ZONE ONE GERMAN KILLED LONDON, Dec. 19. An armed battle between police and bandits in the British occupation zone occurred last night, when a police patrol arrived as a gang of 10 were leaving a plundered farm, reports Reuter’s Hamburg correspondent. The gangsters opened fire, and the police replied, killing one gangster and capturing one. One policeman was wounded. A four-day special curfew was imposed in Luneberg after a British soldier -was attacked from behind by two men armed with sticks. British army and civilian car drivers from yesterday must carry arms and ammunition in the streets of Berlin after 9 p.m. An armed escort must accompany women drivers. The Hamburg radio reported that the Berlin police swooped on city night dubs last night and arrested 300 persons, many of whom were already “ wanted ” for a variety of offences Large quantities of " black market ” meat, eggs, wine, and spirits were found.
