“BIGGEST TIP EVER”
TALKATIVE TAXI-DRIVER John J. Brophy, New Jersey taxidriver, has just received the biggest tip ever—so,ooo dollars. It was given by one of his regular customers, Mr E. L. Rupprecht, an executive of the vast E. L. Dupont de Nemours Company, because Brophy helped him “escape the boredom of talk about business, concerts and the opera.” Mr Rupprecht, who died recently, used a taxi driven by Brophy at least twice a day. and frequently caHed in to see Brophy and talk about his “ real interests ” —football, boxing and baseball. His will disclosed one-eighth of the estate had been left to Brophy, who was discharged from the army last year.
