CHANGING TIMES

THE ATOMIC AGE EFFECT ON NAVIES (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 21. The change from the present navy to an atomic age navy would be as great as that from sail to steam, said the Third Sea Lord of the Admiralty, Rearadmiral C. S. Daniel, in a speech at the launching of the Tiger class cruiser. Blake. He added that there was nothing more expensive than an obsolete navy, but construction would necessarily be on a small scale in the next two or three years. “ We have entered the atomic era,” he said, “which will most certainly have a far-reaching effect on naval construction. I believe we shall find one day that we are in a position to start on a radically new naval construction programme."
