A LOGICAL OUTCOME

Sir, —1 wish to inform your correspondent? “ Matilda ” that Socialism or Communism is, as a studv of “ Scientific Socialism” serves to show, the direct and logical outcome of capitalism, just as capitalism itself was the direct and logical outcome of feudalism. " Scientific Socialism.” as expounded by Marx and Engels, ranks as the only scientific explanation extant of not only the present mode of wealth production, but. also, of the history of the evolution of human society from its primitive to its present highly-developed form. Only by recourse to a study of historical development, etc., may we arrive at an understanding of the nature of the forces which to-day are threatening to overwhelm human society itself. Capitalism, like all the rest of the various forms which have --preceded it,' begets' ;liV* the course of time its own negation. This, I may state, applies equally to everything in the known universe, and signifies nothing so much as the working out of the universal law—one of change. It was capitalism itself in the form of Czarist imperialism that made the revolution in Russia not only possible, but inevitable. The foregoing does not detract in any degree from the part played by those great minds that brought the revolution to, a successful conclusion. I would point out to “ Matilda ” that what is happening in' five-sixths of the world to-day is the direct and logical outcome of the present capitalist mode of production and exchange.—l am. etc., Greg.
