TROTTING NOTES
By Sentinel Jottings The Quite Sure gelding Freckles is booked to race at Ashburton and at the Canterbury Park meeting. Withdrawals in connection with the Gore Trotting Club's meeting are due on Monday. The Sandydale mare Jolly Biddy has won in both her starts this season. Her dam, Jolly Drive, was got by Waverley —Pleasant Drive, by. King Cole—Queen’s Drive, by General Pet—Harold’s Rest, by King Harold. Dust Nuisance One of the means that could be adopted to combat the dust nuisance at Forbury Park would be to provide a lighter spray and a faster water wagon. A slow-moving water wagon is apt to create patches and pools in slight depressions on a track. Jackie Boy One of the finest performances among the maiden pacers who raced at the recent meetings at Claudelands was that of Jackie Boy, winner of the third division of the Frankton Handicap. Driven by his owner,’ A. J. B. Norris (says the Auckland Herald), Jackie Boy was quickly in the lead, and, setting a fast pace, won by a good margin in Hmin 41 3-ssec off 3min 56sec Jackie Boy is a five-year-old by Jack Potts and Winaway, a mare who won many useful race? for Norris. Winaway was got by Nelson Derbv from Mina, by Wild Palm from Maru, by Blackchild. A full-sister to Winaway, Derby Lu was also a good performer Classic Prospect Sure Bond was responsible for an impressive winning effort, in the Wairio Juvenile Stakes on Saturday, and (says the Southland News) it was certainly an outstanding trial for his forthcoming classic engagements in Southland. Sure Bond was got by Quite Sure from Aqua Bond, and so belongs to one of Southland’s most successful families. Aqua Bond, who took a mile record of 2min Bsec, was got by Worthy Bond from the Harold Rothschild mare First Water, who produced Rocks Ahead (dam of Navigate), Nell Grattan and Ned Worthy, etc. Sure Bond was bred by Mr H. Hunter, of Wyndham, and races in the colours of Mr J Hunter, president of the Wyndham Trotting Club. He is a well-grown and beautifully-mannered youngster, and in his race on Saturday he went out so fast from the barrier that he was well clear before the others had settled down to racing. He paced smoothly throughout, and was staying on well at the end of the mile and a-quarter. R. W. Townley. who trains Sure Bond, also produced Trustee, who trailed the winner all the way to the straight and was assured of second money went he went to a break in the last 100 yards. He finished with a buckled sulky wheel, and this was probably the cause of him breaking, as he was pacing well up to that stage. Trustee was also got by Quite Sure and belongs to the First Water family, his dam, First Moko, being a Peter Moko mare from First Author, a half-sister to Aqua Bond.
