VICTORIAN LIBERALS
FORMATION OF MINISTRY “ REBELS ” INCLUDED (Rec. 0.15 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Oct. 2. Mr lan Macfarlan, deputy leader of the Victorian Liberal Party, who was Attorney-general in Mr Dunstan’s Ministry, was to-day granted a commission by the Governor to form a Government. After seeing the Governor Mr Macfarlan returned to Parliament House and formed a Ministry which included five Liberals whose rebellion within the party was the means of defeating the Dunstan Ministry last week. None of these members has had any previous Ministerial experience.
Later to-day this stop-gap Ministry will meet Parliament, when it hopes to obtain supply by midnight, when the dissolution obtained by Mr Dunstan last week will operate. Arrangements are being hastened for a general election, probably on November 17.
