PRESS IN AUSTRIA

CONDITIONAL FREEDOM CONTROL COUNCIL’S DECISION (Rec, 11.40 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 2. The Allied Control Council has granted freedom for all Austrian newspapers and periodicals, says the Vienna correspondent of the Associated Press. The editors are warned that their publications are liable to temporary or permanent suppression if they violate certain conditions. These are:—(l) The papers must support democratic principles and oppose Nazi militarist ideologies. (2) They must not publish material likely to endanger military security. (3) They must abstain from publishing malicious material against the occupying forces aimed at disrupting Allied unity or creating hostility against the Allies among the people.
