SCHOOLBOY’S DEATH
LORRY DRIVER COMMITTED FOR TRIAL NEGLIGENCE ALLEGED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 1. A Wellington Municipal Milk Department employee, Henry Roger Eggers, driver of the delivery lorry in which a schoolboy was killed in Houghton Bay road on August 6, was committed by Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., today to the Supreme Court for trial. Eggers was charged with negligently driving a motor lorry, thereby causing the death of Francis Henry Haywood. ... , Counsel for the accused submitted that the case required no answer, as the evidence of the police witnesses showed that the accused was not driving the lorry at the time it went over the bank. , , . Mi- Stout replied that the statements of the accused to the police, together with other evidence, indicated that the accused was steering the lorry from the running board at the time of the accident.
