GLARE OF PUBLICITY

CAPTAIN UPHAM SEEKS REST (P.A.) CHRISTtiHURCH. Oct. 1. The glare of publicity directed at Captain C. H. Upham following the announcement last Wednesday of the King's award of a bar to his V.C., has ended any chance he had of enjoying the privacy of his life with his family in Christchurch. At present Captain Upham is spending a few days’ holiday at one of the less accessible Banks Peninsula bays, where there is neither telephone nor road access. It is understood that Captain Upham did not accept the reported offer made by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, last week, for him to be flown to England so that he could attend an investiture.
