BOWLING SEASON OPENED In delightful weather, the Alexandra Bowling Club held its official opening for the season on Saturday. The president Mr W. H. King, expressed pleasure at seeing so many visitors from Wanaka, Cromwell. Clyde, and Omakau. He extended a welcome to the returned servicemen who were present, and said he hoped they would have many happy hours on the green. He thanked the members of the Ladies’ Club for their many services, and hoped the club would enjoy a successful season. Mr King then called on Mrs E. V. King to roll the first bowl, after which a pleasant afternoon was spent on the green. Immediately after the men's opening, the ladies opened their green. Mrs W. H. Hinton, the president, expressed pleasure at seeing so many visitors, and said (hat the indications pointed to a successful season. Both greens were playing excellently, for so early a commencement. CHRISTMAS “ INVASION ”
There are many indications that the town will experience something in the nature of an “ mission ” at Christmas and New Year. The Alexandra Bowling Club’s Christmas tournament is already attracting good entries, and all the hotels and boarding houses report record bookings. In addition, there are a great many inquries for houses to let over the holiday period. Mr G. H. Fox lias received a large number of applications for bookings at his camping ground. He estimates that he will have 1000 people under canvas at the peak of the season. To cope with the ever-increasing demand, he has made «* number of extensions.
