MILTON

HOCKEY TOURNAMENT The South Otago Women’s Hockey Association’s annual seven-a-side tournament' was held at Milton on Saturday. Fourteen teams competed for the Farrell Cup for A grade teams and Momona I beat Bruce by 2 goals to nil in the final. Training College I was successful in winning the Lothian Cup for tlie B grade. The cups were presented to the captains of the winning teams by Mr F. Cheyne, president of the association. The referees were Messrs F. Scrivener, S. Todd, W. McLeod, C. Hayward, J. Leith (Dunedin), J. Purvis, Mcsdamcs H. Heads and A. Clark, and Miss M. Wells (Milton). A dance was held in St. John’s Hall at night, when there was a very large attendance. Music was supplied by the Ambassadors’ Dance Band, and Mr J. Wells was the M.C. Following were the results:— A Grade

MOTORING ACCIDENT A motor accident, fortunately not accompanied by serious injury to the occupants of either car, occurred about 11.30 p m. on Saturday at the corner of Spencer street and Springfield road. A car, owned and driven by Mr Wallace Smoothy, of Tokoiti, was travelling south and at the intersection of Springfield road and Spencer street was struck near the rear mudguard by a car driven by Mr Finlay Howie, of Moneymore The impact turned Mr Smoothy’s car over and it finished on its hood, which collapsed, together with the windshield and off near wheel Mr Smoothy was accompanied by his wife and they were trapped under the car. When they were released it was found that Mrs Smoothy had suffered a minor cut on the knee. The bumper bar and mudguard of Mr Howie's car were badly damaged by the collision. RUGBY FOOTBALL The Zingari-Richmond Fourth Grade team visited Milton on Saturday for the annual match against the Toko Third Grade team for the “ Run-Fairly ” Shield. The weather was fine and the ground in excellent order. The match was played at a fast pace throughout and was won by Toko by 8 points to 3. Lockhart kicked a penalty goal for Toko shortly after the start and Pollock later scored for Zingari. In a good forward rally about half way through the second spell Carr scored near the posts and Taylor added the extra points. Mr T. Hansen was the referee.

After the match an adjournment was made to the pipe band room, where a social hour was held until train time. Mr G. Elliott, president of the Toko Club, extended a welcome to the Zingari players and officials. Mr A. Hopewell, manager of the visiting team, responded and presented the shield to J. Hansen, deputy captain of the winning team.
