ASSOCIATION FORMED
OFFICIAL REPORTS TO BE ISSUED (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Sept. 29. Writing from Singapore on September 21, Captain C. H. McMillan, Auckland Star reporter, states that an organisation known as the New Zealand Prisoner of War and Internees (Japanese-held) Association has been formed at Singapore, and it is hoped that everyone who is eligible will join. The president is Lieutenant T. E. Mellor, R.N.V.R., and the organising secretary is Flight Lieutenant R. D. Millar, R.N.Z.A.F. Among the aims and objects of the association are:— 1. To conduct an annual reunion and meeting at which experiences may be exchanged and brighter moments revived. 2. To acquaint the New Zealand Government or any other authority interested with the true facts of the treatment of prisoners Of war and internees and with the knowledge and opinion we have acquired or formed as to the character and actions of the Japanese and Allied people. 3. To give mutual assistance wherever possible to members of the association and their dependents in matters of pay, repatriation, land settlement, etc. 4. To collate such detailed and personal accounts of the death of prisoners of war and internees as is possible and subsequently to make available by letter or personal calls by members to next-of-kin, as much of this information is deemed advisable by the committee.
5. To express to the Red Cross Association and all similar organisations and individuals grateful appreciation of all they did during the imprisonment and afterwards. The address of the association is care of the G.P.0., Wellington.
