Pomfret Dodd was re-elected president of the Council of South Island Acclimatisation Societies at the annual meeting of the council in Christchurch last week. Passengers who left for the north by the airliner on Saturday were Mr K. Donaldson, Mrs R. Frame, and Mr J. Walker for Christchurch, Mr W. Fong, Mr O. Buchanan, Mr J. Hargreave, and Dr R. Edgar for Wellington, Mr R. Davey, Mr R. Silver, and Mrs J. Service for It is announced from Canberra that Professor D. B. Copland, who was born in New Zealand, will soon relinquish his position as Commonwealth Prices Commissioner to resume the university work from which he has been absent for six years. The Prime Minister, Mr J. B. Chifley, said that Professor Copland had handled price control with marked ability, and the Commonwealth was under a debt to him for the benefits which the nation had derived from his successful battle against inflation.
