Mr R. Walls, M.P., returned to Dunedin on Saturday. Cr L. M. Wright and Mr G. T. Edgar, city electrical engineer, returned from Wellington on Saturday. Cr L. J. Ireland and Mr R. A. Johnston, town clerk, have returned to Dunedin from Wellington. Mr W. R. Sinclair has returned from Wellington after attending meetings of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association and the New Zealand Press Association. Mrs R. M. Standring, of 108 Victoria road, has received official advice that her husband, Mr Harold Standring, is safe in Shanghai. Mr G. L. Pomfret Dodd was re-elected president of the Council of South Island Acclimatisation Societies at the annual meeting of the council in Christchurch last week. Chifley, said that Professor Copland had handled price control with marked ability, and the Commonwealth was under a debt to him for the benefits which the nation had derived from his successful battle against inflation.
