Mr A. L. S. Cassie was a passenger for Wellington by the express yesterday. Mr G. R. Ritchie left for Wellington by the express yesterday. ‘Mr A. C. Johnston, left for Wellington by the express yesterday on City Council business. . Mr W. R. Sinclair left for Wellington yesterday to attend meetings of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association and the New Zealand Press Association. Mr Justice Ongley, who has been presiding over sittings of the Compensation Court in Dunedin, will leave for Christchurch this morning. Mr John Farrell, representing Messrs J. and N. Tait and J. C. Williamson, arrived in Dunedin yesterday to complete arrangements for the piano recitals which are to be given shortly by Pnina Salzman. At a meeting of the Royal Dunedin Male Choir the chairman (Mr F. W. Parker) made reference to the loss that the societv had suffered through the death of Mr J.‘ D. Camercn (a vice-president and life member). Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to his memory. At the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Dunedin Returned Services’ Association last night, the secretary, Mr O. F. Ferens, paid a tribute to Mr Richard Wilson, whose death occurred at Milton yesterday. Mr Ferens said that Mr Wilson, who was a South African veteran, had given excellent service to the association by his work in the Wanaka district. Miss Brenda Bell, of Shag Valley Station, Waihemo, who has been engaged in war work in Britain since the outbreak of hostilities, returned to her home yesterday. She was met at the Palmerston Railway Station by the Mayor of Palmerston (Dr T. T. Thomas) and by members of the local branch of the Women’s Institute.

Mr Charles L. Hall, who has recently been promoted to the position of chief inspector of the Bank of New South Wales, with headquarters in Sydney, was born and brought up in Dunedin. He is a son of the late Mr and Mrs F. R. Hall, of Macnee street, Mornington, and was educated at the High Street School and the Otago Boys' High School. He commenced his business career in the Dunedin branch of the Bank of New South Wales, and served subsequently at Naseby, Christchurch, Palmerston North, and Napier. Before leaving for Australia he was auditor for all branches of the bank in New Zealand, and became inspector in each State in Australia before his promotion to the position of chief inspector for Australia, New Guinea, and New Zealand. Passengers who left for the north byair yesterday were: Mr and Mrs J. F. Ewen for Christchurch; Mr F. Laycock for Blenheim; Mrs Lilly, Mr J. Manson, Mr D. Ewen, and Mrs R. Ongley for Wellington; Mrs D. Brookes, Mrs N. B. Taylor, and Miss W. Taylor for Auckland. Passengers who arrived from the north by the afternoon plane were: Mr E. E. Broad, Mrs E. Broad, and Mr J. Trengrove from Auckland; Dr R W. Edgar, Dr K. Christie, Dr M. Christie, Miss M. Ballard, Mrs L. D. Palmer from Wellington; Mr Dodds and Mr R. Bullen from Christchurch. Passengers who left for Invercargill yesterday were: Mr and Mrs R. J. Gilmour, Mr and Mrs E Broad, Mr R. Bullen. Mr A. Craig, Mrs J. Kean, and Mr H. J. McPhail.
