NEW BRITAIN AREA
SURRENDER MOVES ARRIVAL OF ENVOYS SYDNEY, Sept. 5. Brigadier E. L. Sheehan met the Japanese surrender envoys from New Britain on board the destroyer Vendetta off Rabaul yesterday. The meeting was held to iriake preliminary arrangements for full surrender of the Japanese in the New Britain area outside Rabaul to-morrow. Prisoners of war held in the New Britain area include one New Zealander, one Australian, 18 British, 7 Americans, and 1 Dutch, all of whom are reported to be in good health.
