OAMARU TROTTING OWNERS

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE (Special) OAMARU, Sept. 5. The monthly meeting of the executive of the North Otago Trotting Own. ers. Breeders and Trainers’ Association was held last night. Mr D. Williams (president) was in the chair, and there were also present Messrs J. Fraser, A. J. McKenzie, F. Browne, J. Hopley, J. Johnston, F. Taverner, G. Thurlow, and the acting secretary (Mr A. Wallace). The Oamaru Club advised that the club was placing one maiden race on its programme for Labour Day. The distance would be one mile and ahalf, and the stake £2OO. The Gore, Greymouth, and North Canterbury Clubs would also have maiden races on their programmes, and maiden horses would be well catered for on this date. The letter stated that the association’s suggestion about forfeits for the club’s classic race, which was run in May, would be given serious consideration. The New Zealand Trotting Owners, Trainers and Breeders’ Association forwarded copies of regulations from the New Zealand Trotting Association, asking the association’s opinion of two new regulations which it was proposed would ,be brought into operation on January 1, 1946. The regulations were as follows:—(1) Except with the special permission of the New Zealand Trotting Association, no horse of the age of six years or over shall be registered. and no horse whose sire or dam is unregistered shall be registered; (2) if a horse has not been placed in a race before it reaches the age of 10 years it shall not be allowed to start in future races.—Members of the executive expressed the opinion that the age limit of six years provided in the first regulation snould be extended to seven years, and a motion was carried accordingly. The second portion of this regulation was considered too farreaching in its effect, the case of an owner with young stock whose dam was dead being quoted in support of this contention. The second regulation was approved. Messrs Williams, Johnston, and McKenzie were appointed a committee to consider the regulations and draft a reply to the New Zealand association for submission to the next meeting of the executive. Four new members were elected, making the total membership 44. It was reported that there were bad holes in the centre clay track at the racecourse, and Mr Williams was authorised to approach the president of the Oamaru Trotting Club requesting that this track be repaired as a matter of urgency.
