COLONIAL SERVICE
TWO APPOINTMENTS MADE (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 4. Two appointments from New Zealand to Ihe British Colonial Service in Africa were announced by the Public Service Commissioner, Mr J- H. Boyes. 10-night. As a result of the appeal made recently by the Governor of Kenya for assistance in filling vacancies in the legal service of the colony, Mr A. G. Lowe, barrister and solicitor, of Auckland, has been appointed Crown counsel for Kenya, and Mr E. J. Haughey, of Wellington, Crown counsel in Tanganyika. Mr Lowe was for three years secre-tary-legal adviser to the Government of Tonga and during part of that time he acted as Chief Justice of the kingdom. He enlisted in the R.N.Z.A.F. at the outbreak of the war and reached the rank of squadron leader. He had considerable experience as a judge-advo-cate in courts-martial.
Mr Haughey has spent all his professional life in the public service. At present he is office solicitor to the Native Department in Wellington, aqd has had considerable experience in handling all types of Native legal problems.
