QUESTIONS IN HOUSE
SUBMISSION TO MR SPEAKER ADVISABILITY OF CONTINUING PRACTICE (F.0.P.R.) WELLINGTON. Sept. 4. The advisability of continuing the practice of submitting questions to Mr Speaker before they are asked in the House of Representatives was referred to by the Speaker, Mr F. W. Schramm, in the House to-day. The matter was raised by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr S. G. Holland, who had suggested that now the war was over the practice of submitting questions for security reasons might well be discontinued.
The Prime Minister. Mr P. Fraser, said that immediately on the conclusion of the war he had discussed the matter with the Speaker. The Government had no purpose to serve by ha vine the questions submitted. Mr Speaker said that questions were submitted be orehand in the House of Commons, and he thought the same practice should be followed here, particularly in view of the broadcasting of Parliament, which altered the position entirely. He thought that with the help of the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition it might be possible to come to an agreement as to what should be done.
