COMMITTEE HEARS APPEALS The Industrial Man-power Appeal Commitlee—Messrs M. W. Grantham (chairman), G. F. McKellar, and H. H. Gillard —held a sitting yesterday morning. Mr D A. Bell represented the man-powvr officer (Mr S. C. Bingham). An appeal by Miss M. E. Giles (Mr IL Turnbull) and the Otago Farmers Cooperative Association (Mr J. N, Thompson) against a direction that Miss Giles should accept employment at the Roslyn Woollen Mills, was allowed. David Bangley (Mr F. M. Hanan), a manufacturing furrier, appealed, on the. grounds of staff shortage, against a direction that Miss Rnwena Lawson, a finisher, should accept employment at Sargood s boot factory.—The appeal was disallowed. The Royal Exchange Assurance Corporation and Miss Isobel Drysaale. a clerk, appealed against a direction that miss Drysdale should accept employment the Waipiata Sanatorium.—Mr Bell said that the position at Waipiata was particularly serious, there being vacancies for 10 nurse-aids. If they could not be obtained it might be necesary to return some patients to their homes.—Decision was reserved, pending a medical examination , „ Mr C J. L. White appealed against a direction that Miss P. Brown, a short-hand-typist, should accept employment at the Waipiata Sanatorium as a nurseaid.—The appeal was allowed. Because he wished to start a motor repair business on his own account, Thomas Edward Godfrey (Mr J. G. Warrington), a mechanic, appealed against refusal of permission to terminate his employmeni with Napier Motors, Ltd. The appeal was allowed. Kempthorne, Prosser, and Co. anaJ. Arnold appealed against a direction that Miss Arnold should accept employment at the Waipiata Sanatorium.—Decision was reserved.
