ORKNEY AND SHETLAND SOCIETY

The monthly social of the Orkney and Shetland Society was held on Saturday night. The president (Mr J. R. Sabiston) gave a short address of welcome to members, friends, and a large number of visitors from the various kindred societies. He was accompanied on the platform by Mr James Ramsay, president of Die Scot, lish Society. The evening was spent in dancing, interspersed with the following items:— Songs—“ My Hero" (from “The Chocolate Soldier ”) and "An Emblem,” Mrs Stone: “ The Old Rustic Bridge by the Mill ” and " Beautiful Dreamer," Mrs A. Caldwell; violin solos, Mr Wilson; reel o’ Tulloch and Highland fling, Misses Shirley Smith, June Smith, Helen Pettigrew, and June Gutsell. The winners of the “Movie Waltz” were Miss O. Bachop and Mr R. Maconie. 'Music was supplied by Messrs Hargreaves and McMurray, Miss Stirling and Mr Randall. Mr Stan. Clement was the piper. Mr William Stevenson moved a vote of thanks to the performers, and also welcomed home Mr Peter Nicholson after long service in the Middle East. Mr John Sabiston was the M.C. for the evening.
