AN INTRIGUING DRAMA An intriguing drama with its setting in an island off the coast of Brazil, " Submarine Base,” is the principal vehicle of entertainment In the new programme shown at the Strand Theatre yesterday. John Litel, Alan Baxter, and Fifi D’Orsay are In the principal roles, and are given strong support by George Metaxa, Eric Blore, Iris Adrian, Jacqueline Dalya, Anna Demetrio, Louis Alberni, and others. The story concerns the mysterious activities of Baxter, which arouse the suspicions of Litel, who is stranded on the island after being rescued from a torpedoed freighter by Baxter. A Columbia South Seas musical, ” Tahiti Nights,” is the supporting film. The trouble starts when an American band leader, Dave O’Brien, decides to drop in on his Tahitian queen-mother before returning from Hawaii to the States, and quickly finds himself in the midst of a plan to marry him off to the princess of another Tahitian tribe. The cast includes Jinx Falkenburg, Mary Treen, Florence Bates, Carole Mathews, Pedro de Cordoba and Hilo Hattie.
