FRUIT AND VEGETABLES
CABBABE SUPPLY IMPROVES ADVANCE IN POTATO PRICES No word has yet been received of any future shipments of oranges or bananas. Lemons are now on the short side. Apples are now coming forward in slightly larger lots and are about equal to the demand. Small lots of pears are still reaching the market, which could absorb larger supplies. Fairly heavy supplies of New Zealand grapefruit arrived during the week, and prices receded slightly. The Vegetable Market
Cabbages are in slightly better supply, but cauliflowers are not so plentiful and prices firmed a trifle. Parsnips and carrots are in full supply, as also are swedes. Fair supplies of Brussels sprouts are coming forward. There is a good inquiry for first-grade lettuces. Leeks are in fair supply, but celery is short of requirements. Potatoes continue to be in short supply, but onions are plentiful. The first rhubarb of the season reached the market this week, and prices ranged up to 2s per lib bundle. A shipment of pumpkins is expected from Gisborne on Monday. This should be the last consignment of the season. Wholesale Prices
