COMBINED BAND CONCERT

There was a large attendance at the Botanic Gardens yesterday when the Dun•din Ladies' Brass Band (conducted by Mr Hilmer Davie) and the Invercargill Boys' Battalion Band (conductor, Captain C. E. Miller) gave a combined concert. The plaving ol the march “ Invercargill ” and " Our Director ” and the hymn Lead, Kindly Light ” and "Abide with Me ” by over 70 players was excellent. Both bands

also played individual selections, which were well received, the novelty drumming by the Ladies’ Band being particularly popular. An added attraction was the presence of Mr C. C. Selby, a former champion piper of New Zealand, who played several selections. The Mayor (Mr D. C. Cameron) was present, and he thanked Captain Miller and the members of his band for their performance, and expressed the wish that the combined concert might be an annual affair. The collection amounted to £63.
