WOMEN'S COMPETITION

Some of the best play of the season was seen on the Oval on Saturday afternoon, when the women’s hockey competition was continued. The grounds were fast and even. Interesting hockey was seen in the three A 1 Grade matches. A 1 Grade Kings defeated Training College by 2 goals to nil in an evenly contested game. M. Eaton, who scored both goals for the winners, was the outstanding forward, and she was well supported by E. Campbell, B. Henry (the goalkeeper), who saved some hard shots, G. Simon, and G. Riach. The best College players were B. Auld and M. Chisnall (full-backs), and M. Coburn and E. Davidson (halves). Taieri, who are leading in the competition with Kings, defeated Momona by 3 goals to nil. The Taieri defence was superior, and the winners were also more enterprising on attack. M. Borley (2) and W. Gorman (1) were the scorers. For Taieri, the three Weddell sisters were again in good form, and R. Cullen was sound on the wing. D. Stinson was the pick of the Momona forwards and played her bestgame of the season. In the half-back line M. Smith showed improved form, and R. Wilson was sound at full-back. A fast game was provided by University and Otago, the former winning by 6 goals to 3. The University forwards played well together, and the backs showed up on attack. This team is very fit and well trained, and has shown' improvement with every match. The two wings and the two full-backs played well, and L. Harding was reliable. I. Erridge, E. Puddey, M. Henderson, and M. Doull were the pick of the Otago team. Lower grade results were as folloA2 Grade.—Columba College 1, University C 1; Glenross 3, Momona 1. B 1 Grade. —University D 5, Training College nil; Momona 1, Training College 1; Fern 4, Dunedin 1; O.G.H.S. 2, Otago 1; Taieri won from Technical College by default. . . B2 Grade. —University E 3. Training College nil; Columba College 2, Wesley 1; Momona 2, Training College D 1; University F won from Combined, by default; Taieri won from Technical College by default.
