POLITICAL TRENDS

Sir, —” New Order ” is building up arguments on false premises for the sole purpose of knocking them down again. I leave him at that exhilarating amusement except where he fastened on to me false statements about the movement which I defend. I did not say “ the Reserve Bank issued free credit or interest-free money for public works.” I never mentioned “ free ” credit or “ free ’’ interest. There is no analogy between Mr John Hogan being victimised and Mr Walls, who in 1913- because of his loyalty to Labour and trade union principles lost his employment. Mr Hogan was guaranteed a living at the wage everv other worker was paid, with this addition—that if in his previous employment his wages were higher the Government made up tire deficiency. Your correspondent speaks of “ Labour secretaries ’’ and “ Labour gangsters ” who should be “ man-powered ” also. I challenge him to mention one. This general attack is cowardly, as it reflects also on good men. The facts are that as soldiers return from this war and resume their own employment they are taking a deciding influence in r.ot letting their mates down who are still at the war, and in also seeing that those who cannot go to the war render service in some essential industry. These men want the law to be no respecter of persons.—l am, etc., J. E. MacManus.
