OBITUARY

MRS ELLEN KING The death occurred at Oamaru on Friday of Mrs Ellen King at the age of 79 years. Mrs King, who was a daughter of Mr and Mrs Courtney, was born at Camberwell, Surrey. England. In 1882, at the age of 16 years, she came with her sister to New Zealand jn the sailing ship Wellington, to reside with another sister, Mrs Wilson, of Mersey street, Oamaru. and she had lived in Oamaru ever since. She married Mr Martin King, a cabinetmaker, of Oamaru, who predeceased her on September 1, 1939, and she was also predeceased by a son, Charles. Mrs King was one of the foundation members of St. Luke’s Mothers’ Union. Her lovable and kindly nature made for her many friends, especially among young children. She is survived by two sons, Mr Alfred King (Dunedin) and Mr George King (Oamaru).
