CAGAYAN VALLEY

AMERICANS’ SWIFT ADVANCE CAPTURE OF BAMBANG WASHINGTON, (Rec. 7 p.m.) June 7. General MacArthur’s communique says:—“Units of the Thirty-seventh Division, pushing swiftly down tihe Cagayan Valley, captured Bambang, 10 miles north of Aritao, and advanced a further three miles in face of light resistance. Large quantities of food and medical supplies were captured. "In the central sector, our forces cleared the enemy from defended positions in the mountain ranges east of Manila. Bombers carrying 200 tons furnished ground support, and effectively covered targets throughout the Cagayan Valley. Our forces on Mindanao, supported by dive-bombers, continued their steady attrition of enemy personnel and irreplaceable stocks of supplies, making limited gains against increasing resistance. , “ Heavies, in adverse weather, bombed scattered targets in Formosa. Reconnaissance planes struck enemy shipping and airfields west of Hainan, wrecking five cargo vessels. They also harassed shipping in the Yangtse and sank a medium cargo vessel east of Shanghai. Other aircraft attacked Borneo, and swept the Wewak and Sepik sections (New Britain), and Kavieng (Bougainville). Large fires w'ere started near Rabaul.”
