DUNEDIN NORTH SEAT
MR J. A. LEE’S INTEREST A POSSIBLE CANDIDATE The possibility of Mr J. A. Lee contesting the Dunedin North seat made vacant by the death of Mr J. W. Munro is indicated in the latest issue of John A. Lee’s Weekly. When asked by the New Zealand Herald on Thursday for a statement of his intentions Mr Lee said,he had no further comment to make at the moment. Mr Lee, writing editorially in his weekly, suggests that, following the Hamilton by-election campaign, there my be sufficient funds “ big enough to warrant a trip of investigation ” to Dunedin North. He claims that it is “ our type of seat,” and says that “ persoriallv I have never felt more full of fight than I do at this moment.” Mr Lee recalls that he was born in the Dunedin North electorate, went to school there, and knows the district as well “as any man alive.” Standing as a Democratic Labour candidate at the Hamilton by-election, Mr Lee obtained 1229 votes. The result of the voting in Dunedin North at the general election in 1943 was:—J. W. Munro (Labour), 8038: A. L. Cassie (National), 5240; F.A.Keane (Peoples Movement), 858; C. M. Moss (Democratic Labour), 263. The majority for Mr Munro was 2798.
