MILTON
Footballers’ Ball.—The ball held by Toko Football Club In the Coronation Hall on Thursday pight was very successful. There were about 135 couples present. The hall was tastefully decorated with strings of flags and a banner, and a feature of the function was the Victory grand march, which was led by the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr and Mrs C. Keinan), and which finished up in the form of a V. Dick’s Dance Band (Kaitangata) provided the music, with extras by Miss L. Keinan, Messrs W. Taylor and J. Tough, and Driver I. Gray. Messrs E. Currie and W. Murdoch were the M.C.’s, and Miss F. Dignan and partner were the winners of the Lucky Spot waltz. The supper was in the charge of the lady friends of the club.
Rugby Football. —The Domain Ground was in good condition for the start of the football matches on Saturday, but heavy rain soon turned it into a quagmire in places. Toko 111 defeated Crescent 111 in the curtain-raiser to the Senior match beween the same clubs. Toko 111 won by 11 points (three tries, one converted) to nil. Prior to the Senior game teams from Tokoitl and St. Joseph's Schools played a seven-a-side game, which resulted In a draw. There was a fairly large crowd of spectators who braved the cold conditions in anticipation of a close game in the Senior Glenthorn Cup match, but Crescent (the holders) Inflicted one of the heaviest defeats recorded in South Otago football, when they scored 53 points to Toko’s nil. Despite the wet and greasy ball the handling of the’’Haig Bros, at half-back and five-eighth was a treat to watch, and they were responsible for the majority of the points. Mr W. Murdoch was referee of the Junior game, Mr W. Dee the primary schools’ game, and Mr T. Hansen the Senior game. Next Saturday's matches will be: —Seniors: Toko v. Catlins, at Owaka; Crescent v. Valley, at Clydevale; Clutha v. Clinton, at Clinton. Second Grade: Clutha v. Clinton, at Balclutha; Union, a bye. Third Grade: Clutha v. Toko, at Milton: High School v.
