Galvena made a bold bid in the Beaconsfield Trot at Timaru, but _ Windermere proved a bit too good for him. Galvena paid over double figures for a place. Sir Raymond, the winner of the Opihi Trot, is a six-year-old gelding by Rey de Oro—Yukon, by Logan Pointer—Franzetta, by Franz, a brother lo Fritz. Windermere, the winner of the Beaconsfield Trot is a five-year-old mare by Jack PottsFlying Cloud, by Wrack —Pearlchild, by Rothschild—Verity, by Vancleve. Both winners were well handled by J. McLennan, jun., who has donned the mantle ■of his father, J. McLennan, one of the best riders and reinsmen of his day. The Trotting Calendar has been investi- : ating the records of some of the pacers still in commission. The “ classic ” is Playwright, 16 years old and still a maiden. Sequoia has raced for 11 seasons and has .vet to win. Proletarian, Erin’s Empress, Gav Spark, Master Potts, Silver Flash, Wharekawa, Worthy Pointer, Prince Charles, Repose, Traveltone. Cam Derby, Sir Julien, and Tubeck have not won for six years, and there is a much longer list of horses which have not been successful for four and five years. More than 100 horses are named which have not won for three years, but evidently (heir owners believe there is another Double Peter among them.
