NORTH MAGNETIC POLE

IMPORTANCE OF DISCOVERY RUGBY, May 27.

“The discovery of the true position of the North Magnetic Pole by the crew of the Aries is of great importance.” said Sir Harold Spencer Jones, the Astronomer Royal, to-day. “There is a great future in North Polar navigation,” he said, “because flying over the Pole can shorten the distance to many places in North and West America, and it will be a great help if the pilot is certain where his compass is pointing. The interesting thing to me about the result is that it does generally confirm that the true position of the Magnetic Pole is some hundreds of miles from the position hitherto assigned to it.”
