BRITISH LIFEBOATS
FINE RECORD DURING WAR THOUSANDS OF LAUNCHINGS (Rec. 0.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 23. Lifeboats around Britain and Ireland were launched 3760 times during the war to ships and planes in distress, saving 6373 lives. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution awarded 204 medals for gallantry. Lifeboatmen also won four British Empire, two Distinguished Service, and one George Medals.
