BROADCASTING AND WAR
VALUABLE SERVICES OF 8.8. C. EMPIRE RELATIONS DRAWN CLOSER (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 19. When the full story of the war effort of the 8.8. C. was made known people would realise what a tremendous influence broadcasting had had on the successful carrying on of the war in Europe, said Professor Shelley, Director on Broadcasting, who, with Mr J. R. Smith, the chief engineer, represented the National Broadcasting Service at the Empire broadcasting conference. In an interview to-day he indicated that the greater part of what he had seen and heard on the trip was confidential. ■ - -
The delegates to the conference, Professor Shelley said, had greatly appreciated the generous way in which the heads of the 8.8. C. had made available any information likely to be of value to them. It was hoped that as a result of the conference very much closer relations would exist between the various broadcasting organisations of the Empire in the general pooling of information and in other directions. It was hoped to carry on in peacetime the close working together that had been forced upon the various parts of the Empire by the war.
