LIFE WORK SHATTERED
LEY READY TO DIE . LONDON, May 17. Dr Robert Ley, the German Labour Front chief, told the Alpine villagers with whom he spent the night before his capture: “I do notajnderstand why the Allies want me as a war criminal, but my life’s work helping the German people is shattered, so I am ready to die.” The Daily Mail’s correspondent at Salzburg asked Ley about the Jews. He replied: “For me, Jews do not exist in the Fatherland.”
