WOMEN AND CHILDREN
WORK OF WELFARE SOCIETY The forty-sixth annual report of the committee of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children states that the question of federation with the other three branches and the holding of a conference was discussed during the year, and it was decided; to federate and to send delegates to a conference, Mrs Aslin and Miss CoeSmith attending. Many matters bearing on social welfare work were discussed at the conference. The cases dealt with by .the society during the year comprise all those cases of domestic discord which give rise to separations and divorces, with their consequent problems connected with the custody and maintenance of the children. The following is a summary of the cases dealt with in the past year:—Separation cases 46, domestic differences 39, reconciliations 24, maintenance defaulters 25, collection of maintenance 27, cruelty and drurikenness 13,. arrangements for access 28, illegitimate children 17, affiliation cases 10, deserted wives 16, employment sought 24, miscellaneous 784, making a total of 1053. Maintenance and social security benefits collected and disbursed amounted to £2140 i7s 6d.
