The following is a statement of the assets and liabilities of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand as at the close of business on Monday, May 7 (the figures for the previous return being given in parentheses) : Liabilities.—General Reserve Fund, £1,500,000 (£1,500,000); bank notes, £40,316,769 (£40,298,910); demand liabilities—State £14,448.960 (£15,138,725); banks, £39,626,825 (£39,638,260). other £1,457,859 (—); liabilities in currencies other than New Zealand currency, £207 043 (£235,082); other liabilities, £2,433,630 (£2,435,263); total, £99,991,089 (£99,141,212). Assets. Gold reserve. £2,801,877 (£2,801,877); sterling exchange, £52,536.874 (£51,435,558); subsidiary coin, £35,416 (£31,681); advances to the State or State undertakings Marketing Department, £2.141,243 (£3,004,101), for other purposes £27,000,000 (£27.000,000); investments, £14,325,076 (£14,325,076); other assets. £1,150.600 (£1.283,174);—t0ta1, £99,991,089 (£99,141,212). Proportion of veserve to notes and other demand liabilities, 57.518 per cent. (56.513 per cent.).
