REVIEW OF APPEALS
MEN STILL REQUIRED FOR SERVICE OTHER THEATRES OF WAR (Special) AUCKLAND, May 18. “This board has been charged with the duty of putting into operation the replacement scheme adopted by the War Cabinet, under which, men who have had overseas service for three years are being returned to the Dominion and replaced by men held on appeal in New Zealand,” stated Mr E. Edwards, chairman of the No. 2 Armed Forces Appeal Board, at a sitting at Putaruru. He added that the board was being harder than ever it had been. Replacements had to be obtained. He had been informed from Wellington that all appeals should be reviewed. There were other theatres of war where replacements would be required. Sixty-eight cases were before the board and they concerned top category men who had had lengthy sine die adjournments. Mr Edwards said that 'in the majority of cases decision would be reserved and the appeals discussed with representatives of the Primary Production Council. Decisions would be made by the board and checked against error with the council.
All the appeals were on behalf of farmers or farm hands.
