GERMAN COAL MINERS

TRADE UNION FORMED LONDON, May 17. German coal miners at Alsdorf, near Aachen, have formed the first officially recognised trade union since 1933, says a message from Allied headquarters. They dedicated the meeting to the late President Roosevelt, “ the great friend of Labour, whose work has made this possible." The meeting was held with the permission of the Allied Governments, and adopted the name of "The German Workers’ Union.” The speakers proposed that the union should work to redeem the German people In the eyes of the world, and they warned the miners to watch “not only for Brown Shirts, but also for the people who supported them.”
