ANZAC DAY

ADDITIONAL SERVICES The following services were held on Wednesday in commemoration of Anzac Day Port Chalmers.—A large parade of the services attended the Port Chalmers commemoration service, which was conducted by the Returned. Services’ Association. There were present the Mayor (Mr H. S. Watson), and councillors, returned servicemen and members of the St. John Ambulance, Red Cross, Girl Guides and Brownies, Sea Scouts, Boys' Brigade, Life Boys. Fire Brigade, and a detachment of visiting servicemen. The president of the Jocal branch of the R.S.A. (Mr W. Porter) gave a short address, and Mr Watson read the King’s message. The principal address was given by the Rev. O. T. Baragwanath, and the various ministers of the town assisted in the service, w r hich was conducted by the Rev. H. O. Bowman. The cenotaph service was conducted by the Rev. J. Simpson, and during the playing by the Marine Band wreaths were deposited on the cenotaph by the R.S.A. and various local bodies. / Sawyers’ Bay.—Observances in connection with Anzac Day -were held at the school, where a wreatli made by Ihe senior pupils was placed on the memorial panel. The service was conducted by the Rev. R. G. S. Chambers. The children then proceeded to the district monument, where' wreaths were placed by relatives of those who had given their lives in the cause of the Empire. Masgiel.—Under the auspices of the Mosgiel District Returned Services’ Committee the people of Mosgiel observed Anzac Day on traditional lines. A procession arrived at Mosgiel Park, where a lament was played by the Taieri Highland Pipe Band, and the Mayor (Mr W P. Hartstonge) delivered a brief address. Wreaths were placed on the monument, after which the procession re-formed and marched to the Coronation Hall, where a service was conducted by the Mosgiel •Ministers’ Association. The Rev, J. H. Nielsen presided, and the Rev. A. Macfarlane delivered t.he address. Outram.—An Anzac service was held in the Town Hall at Outram at 2 o’clock Mr K. W. Reid, was the chairman, and after the roll of honour had been read, an address was given by Mr Angus Ross. A procession was formed and marched to the war memorial, where wreaths were laid on the monument. Berwick—The Anzac service was largely attended. The Momona Pipe Band led the procession to the school memorial gates, where a short service was heldWreaths were placed on the gates and the pipers played a lament. The procession returned to the hall, where the main service was held. The Rev. Mr Macfarlane gave the address, and the roll of honour was read by the president.
