GAME SHOOTING
ISSUE OF LICENCES
Game licences for the shooting season which opens on May 12 have been despatched by the Otago Acclimatisation Society to its country agents, and sportsmen will be informed by the issuing officer of the source from which to obtain their supplies of - ammunition. The information will be contained on the cover of each book cl' licences. As ammunition is being handled in several of the country districts by storekeepers, arrangements have been made for the licences to be issued by some of these storekeepers. This applies particularly to Balclutha, Alexandra, Tapanui, Ranfurly, Omakau, and Palmerston. Owing to unavoidable delay, stocks of ammunition will not be available in Dunedin until Monday or Tuesday, and the country quotas will be despatched at the earliest opportunity. The secretary of the society (Mr L. Millar) said yesterday that some misconception appeared to exist among farmers regarding the issue of ammunition. The Government, he pointed out, had made the release to game licence holders on the basis of the 1944 sales. In other words, the farmer who normally shot on his own property without a licence was not eligible for the special issue of ammunition.
