Mr M. Connelly, M.L.C., travelled north to Timaru by the express on Saturday morning.
Mr J. Hudson, of Auckland, returned north by the express on Saturday morning after a visit to Dunedin. Miss Mabel Howard, M.P., left for Christchurch by the through express on Saturday morning after a visit to Dunedin. Passengers who left for the north on Saturday to join the airliner were Miss D. Olive for Christchurch; Mr J. H. Martin, Mrs S. Nankivell, and Mrs M. Lockwood for Wellington; Mrs F. R. Glen, Miss Berry and Mr D. J. Lack for Auckland. A Press Association cablegram from London states that the Right Rev. George Vincent Gerard has accepted the Bishop of Sheffield's offer of the benefice of Rotherham, Yorkshire. Bishop Gerard was senior chaplain in the New Zealand forces from the outbreak of war until captured in North Africa at the end of 1942. He resigned the diocese of Waiapu after repatriation in order to resume his chaplaincy in the South Pacific. He hopes to go to Rotherham in July, after visiting the New Zealand forces in Italy.
