“WORLD OF PLENTY "
FEEDING THE NATIONS
AN ENLIGHTENING FILM
An interesting film entitled “ World of Plenty” was shown in the Y.M.C.A. social hall last night under the auspices of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce. In addition to members of the chamber and their wives, there were also present representatives from the Manufacturers’ Association, the Employers’ Association, the R.S.A., the Farmers’ Union, the A. and P. Society, and the Educational Institute. Mr A. P. Greenfield, president of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce, occupied the chair. The film, which had been forwarded by the Internal Marketing Division, was made by the British Ministry of Information. The main theme was the distribution of world food supplies on an equitable basis, thus overcoming the malnutrition and hunger that exist in many countries. The film showed in a striking manner how, by proper organisation of the world’s resources, all nations might share the fruits of the earth’s produce. The script for the film was written by the novelist, Eric Knight, and among those who appeared in it were President Roosevelt, Mr H. G. Wells, and Dr Wellington Koo. Those playing the parts included Lord Woolton, Sir John Orr, Sir John Russell, Lord Horder,- and Mr Henry Wallace, a former vice-president of the United States.
The main film was supplemented by scenic films provided by Kodak, Ltd., of Auckland.
