CYCLONIC RAINFALL

DAMAGE IN QUEENSLAND (Rec. 7 p.m.) BRISBANE, Mar. 19. Heavy rainfall and considerable damage resulted from a cyclone which has been raging along the Queensland coast north from Cooktown for the last two days. Two ships caught in the cyclone have been damaged, but no particulars have been released. Telephone communication north of Cairns has been interrupted, and the railway from Townsville to Cairns has been impassable for three days. Late last night the cyclone centre was 100 miles west of Cooktown and moving west to southwest. During a period of 24 hours Archer Point recorded 11.86 in of rain.
